MLP:FIM Baby Asian Dragon by SaturnGrl MLP:FIM Baby Asian Dragon by SaturnGrl
Brony influence is a hard thing to avoid...especially when the person you're dating is one of them. ^^;
Although, I personally have had a love for dragons ever since I was a little girl, and I've been wondering if the MLP show would venture out into newer regions to discover other pony/horse kinds, and even dragons. Being a person of oriental descent, I have been curious about how they would portray an Asian culture and its inhabitants. That's one of the reasons I made this little darling.

Her name is 莲 Lián (Pronounced Lee-Ann) which is an abbreviated version of 莲花 Liánhuā meaning "Lotus". She is a baby Asian Dragon that I have been working off and on while also practicing with the Photoshop pen tool. Her body design is slimmer and more serpent-like than Spike, basically meaning that I didn't give her the plump rump that he has. Her foreground arm is obstructing the view of her back so you can't really see what I mean...just visualize a smooth, sleek spine behind it, and you'll get the gist of what I mean.

I made her gold and red in her basic color scheme because the most regal of Asian dragons are gold in color. Her "ears" and tail tip are pink and designed to resemble the Lotus which is her namesake. Although there has been mention by my BF that her ear looks more like a cherry blossom petal...but then again that's another Asian reference. ^^;
Her goo-goo eyes were fun to make. It just enhances the cuteness. :heart:

If I had to choose, I'd make little Lián younger than Spike, maybe by about a year, and she would be slightly smaller than him. I do have plans to make a "Mentor/Master" for her, just like how Spike has Twilight as his "Mentor/Master".
She is learning magic and meditation, and she can float by using the power of her spirit. This is my own explanation on how Asian Dragons fly. Since they do not have wings, the ability to fly has always been a mystical matter in Asian lore. To me, they fly with the power of their spirits.
Lián can't "fly" yet since she is a baby dragon, so she can only float short distances. As her spirit gets stronger with meditation, she will be able to fly when she's older. ^_^

Hope folks like her concept and design. I'll doodle up her "Mentor/Master" when I get the chance. Enjoy!

What would be the Qilins' attitude towards dragons? I'm willing to bet that contrary to their pony "cousins", they would practically worship them, much like how ancient Chinese did.

Not so much worship, but they do treat them with a high level of respect.
All my Qilin and the dragons represent 1 of the 4 elements. Dragons represent the Water element, thus they live together with the Qilin harmoniously, instead of in fear of each other.
